Terry Senkewitz Obituary

Terry Ann Senkewitz, 77, of Brooklyn, MI, passed away on September 30, 2024.  Terry was born in Tecumseh, MI to Alan & Thelma Whiteman on August 17, 1947.  She attended Clinton high school, graduating in 1965.  While attending Clinton she was a Majorette, and excelled in band, playing both flute and piccolo.  Her love of music followed her throughout her life, as she taught herself to play the banjo and would accompany her husband John while he played the guitar.   Terry worked for IBM as a Keypunch Operator for many years.  Later in her career she worked in many office settings, including working for Columbia Options School.  One of her favorite things was working with kids, and she volunteered at Miller Elementary for many years.  Terry had a love of nature, animals, cooking / baking, furniture restoration, and had a creative streak a mile wide.  Depending on the day, you may find her with a kitchen full of freshly made bread, refinishing a chair, in the woods with a tent and a campfire or fishing on a bank with a cane pole (her favorite).  She rarely sat still, unless it was with a good book.  She loved being around kids, and for many years was “THE” team mom, who always showed up with all the supplies needed for any situation, for whatever game was being played.  One of her favorite hobbies in later years was feeding everyone.  Her self-taught baking skills were the stuff of (local) legend.  Terry is survived by her husband John Senkewitz of Brooklyn, her son Michael (Adonia) Senkewitz, daughter Cathy Senkewitz and grandsons Jacob Gross, Joshua Gross, Ethan Senkewitz and Adam Senkewitz.   She is preceded in death by her parents Alan and Thelma Whiteman, as well as her brothers Jerry (Judi) Whiteman and Alan Gene (Shirley) Whiteman.  Currently there are no services.  Memorial donations may be made to Jackson County Animal Shelter, 3370 Spring Arbor Road, Jackson MI 49203. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Legacy Assisted Living as well as Gentiva Hospice for their amazing care of Terry
