Michael James Rood

Michael James Rood, aged 57, of Dearborn Heights, MI, passed away peacefully at his home on August 7, 2020, with his wife Melanie and daughter Mandy by his side. Born to Arlene Rood (nee Smith). Confirmed in the faith at Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and a graduate of Redford Union High School. After high school he joined the United States Marine Corp where he excelled as a tank mechanic for over 10 years. Mike married his soulmate & best friend Melanie on April 1st, 2007. A blended family, his children and her children became their children. Mike always kept busy and was a hard worker, be it at home or helping others, he always gave 100% to everything he did. Mike had a passion for sports of all types. His hobby, which he became extremely proficient at, was to search out desirable and rare sports cards which he would sell at card shows and on eBay. Always organized and a lovable go-getter, this became a perfect pastime for him. A retired mail carrier with the USPS, he truly enjoyed the day to day rhythms of life and making wonderful memories on travel adventures with Melanie. He did not practice Stoicism, it came to him naturally, rarely complaining or turning away from the difficulties that providence brought his way. Loved by all who knew him, he was a shining example of the best kind of man, husband, father, and Marine. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Robert Rood and Arlene Rood, and his beloved son Michael. He is survived by his wife Melanie, his brothers Steven, Allan, Richard, Daniel, James, and his sisters Susan and Laura, and his children Amanda, Rebekah, and Ian, grandchildren Archer, Robert, Emma, Kyle, and Julian. He fought the good fight and has gone to his rest. Semper Fi  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Lung Cancer Research Foundation  A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday August 28, 2020, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Dearborn Hills Golf Course, 1300 S. Telegraph Road, Dearborn, MI 48124.  Military Honors will be performed by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard.
