MaryGene Johnson, 84, of Adrian, passed away peacefully on Monday March 4th at Hospice Home of Lenawee. She was born on May 22, 1934 in Elyria Ohio to the late Edward and Ruth (Sevey) Spencer. In 1950 she married Charles Kenneth Stokes and together they had three children Diane Linda and William Stokes. She attended St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Ypsilanti before moving to Sterling Heights. In 1969 she married Glen Edward Johnson, he preceded her in death in 1990. She worked for the US Army Tank Plant in Warren as a microfilm operator before retiring in 1992. MaryGene was an avid Detroit Tiger and Pistons fan. If there wasn’t a game on you could find her watching an old black and white show or anything starting John Wayne. Hobbies included playing bingo, bird watching; especially the hummingbirds, completing word-finds, and painting sun catchers or water painting. She was most happy when spending time with her family. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers Richard and Bob, daughter Diane and grandson Daniel. Surviving family includes grand children Ronda Woolley, Amanda (Scott) Kirkendall, Randi (Dan) Baschal, Shana (Daryl) Stites and Emily (David) Buday. Great grand children, Nicole and Jonathon Whitelaw, Kelsey Stites, Kyleigh Woolley, Devin and Denver Kirkendall, Grace, Abigail and Elijah Buday. Great great grand children Bayleigh Tyler, Carter Whitelaw, Avani Smith and Karah Jo Banks. Cremation has taken place and MaryGene will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery this spring. The family would like to thank the staff at Bixby Emergency department and Critical Care unit. From the doctors and nurses who cared for her and helped explain things to our family to the cleaning staff that offered a warm blanket. A special thank you to Dr. Voohrees and the staff at Hospice of Lenawee. Thank you for all the love and compassion you showed our family and especially my grandma. Your hands are gentle and your hearts full of respect and love. We could not have asked for a better team of caregivers to aid in her circle of life.
