Mary Legeane DeWeese Conrad, 84, of Addison, passed away at her home on October 26, 2021, after a four-and-a-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Mary was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi to William and Lela (Bethany) DeWeese on February 15, 1937. Mary retired from General Motors of Kokomo, Indiana after 34 years of dedicated service. Mary was an absolute one-of-a-kind, genuine soul. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, going junking, sewing, quilting, cooking, running the roads, and telling tales. Sunshine seemed to follow her. Mary never met a stranger. Mary will be forever remembered as a generous, loving, loyal, funny, hardworking, strong, firecracker of a woman. Mary’s strength was only outweighed by her love for her family. Mary is preceded in death by her mother, father, infant brother Rudolph DeWeese, brother Bobbie Wayne DeWeese, brother Micky DeWeese and daughter Lela Virginia Barnes. Mary is survived by siblings: William DeWeese, Marilyn Green, Darline Killens, children: Barbara (Jim) Verbosky, Jerry Barnes, Jacqueline Warden, Charlene (Daniel) Mayfield. Grandchildren: Jim, Aaron, Dustin, Sam and Seth Verbosky, Tim Hixson, Amanda Barnes, Matthew Barnes, Jacob Gorski, Jalynn Warden, Conrad, Collin, and Catherine Mayfield and 18 great-Grandchildren. The family of Mary Conrad wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to Dr. Nicholas Kielhorn, Careline Hospice, U of M Rogel Cancer Center, and everyone who loved her along the way. In lieu of flowers, Mary did not want a formal service. The family plans a Celebration of Life this summer. Mary wanted donations made to the Pancreatic Cancer Foundation or to perform a random act of kindness.
