Magdalene Dallas Obituary


Magdalene (Meyer) Dallas, age 98, passed away on June 15, 2022 in her home in Tecumseh Michigan. She was born on September 22, 1923 in Mittelstendorf Germany, daughter of Heinrich and Marie Meyer. She emigrated to the United States in October 1952, sponsored by her cousins Frieda and Joe Ladwein. She made her residence in Hyde Park (Chicago) Illinois for 63 years. She was a legal secretary for a law firm located at the Sears Tower in Chicago. At the age of 65 years she married Howell Dallas and spent the next 10 years of her life enjoying traveling around the globe and sharing their lives together.  He preceded her in death in 1998. She would return to see her family in Germany yearly as well as visit other places where her family lived such as South Africa, South America and Costa Rica. She enjoyed traveling and meeting new people and seeing the different cultures of the world. She kept up with all the new additions in the family by birth, by marriage, or distant relatives she had never met. She was also an avid reader. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Martin (Gisela) Meyer, Heinrich (Erna) Meyer, and sisters, Emma (Nikolaus) Ehlers, Frieda (Wilhelm) Mueller and 7 other siblings.  She was also preceded in death by her nephew Klaus (Renate) Ehlers, by her niece Friedeborg (Bob) Alley and her great nephews Larry Alley and Chad Meschwitzer. She is survived by her nephews Henry (Karla) Meyer, Ullrich Meyer, Wolfgang (Desiree) Meyer, Wilfried (Sabine) Mueller, Peter (Heide) Ehlers and nieces Heidi (Michael) Neetbling, and Marlis (Gottfried) Bauer. She is also survived by her stepdaughter  Mary (Len) Rusnak and grandson Erik of Montrose Colorado. Also surviving are grand nephew Michael (Susan) Alley and Heidi Meschwitzer of Tecumseh and many other grand nieces and grand nephews whom she loved very much. She is also survived by a special friend Anje Schein of Chicago Illinois. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
