Kevin Lee Cymes

Kevin Lee Cymes, age 58, of Evans Lake, MI, passed away peacefully, July 13, 2021, at home with his family. He was born September 17, 1962, in Ypsilanti, MI, the son of Richard Cymes & Virginia Shear. He married Kristi Slusher on 9-9-1999, on the island of St. Lucia, BWI.  Kevin was a graduate of Clinton High School, Class of 1980. He then went on to earn a Bachelors of Science from Western Michigan University. While at WMU, Kevin competed as a decathlete, training as a 1984 Olympic Hopeful. Kevin medically retired from IBEW Electrical Union Local 252 in 2018 after a 33 year career as an electrician. Kevin first and foremost loved his family, especially spending time with his children. He grew up on Evans Lake, loved the beach, lakes and water, all water sports, playing his guitar and piano, treasure hunting, scuba diving, flying his plane and traveling adventures with his wife and kids. Kevin enjoyed putting others first, and will always be remembered for his wit and making others laugh. He would always beat you in a game of chess and outwit you in any discussion. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kristi Cymes, his three children, Olivia Cymes, Nicholas Cymes and Lauren Cymes; his mother, Virginia Shear of Evans Lake; one brother, Jon (Kristi) Cymes of Arvada, CO; one sister, Trudy (Jamie) Wright of Brooklyn, MI; ten nieces and nephews; and many cousins. Kevin fought a 3+ year battle with cancer. We find peace & comfort knowing he is now pain free and in Heaven. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Cymes; and his grandparents.  Viewing & Visitation will be on Saturday, July 17, 2021, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, MI.  A Short Message and Memory Sharing will follow at 4:00 PM.
