Jean Holther, age 87, joined some of her dear family and friends in another place on May 13, 2026. She was born on January 9, 1939, in Ionia, Michigan, the daughter of Fred and Iva Holther. She lived a country childhood there with brothers Karl and Robert and sister Kathleen where she attended a one-room elementary school. In 1957, Jean graduated from Ionia High School and married her high school sweetheart. They had five children and lived for 20 years in Ionia. In 1978, Jean moved to Ann Arbor with her children and started a new life of independence and study. While raising her children and working at The University of Michigan, she studied for her bachelor's degree at Eastern Michigan University. In 1983, Jean married Scott Trowbridge in Ann Arbor. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1989 and in 1994 received a master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. She then taught at several universities and colleges in Southeast Michigan. During these years she took up travel, photography, and pottery and got to experience the cultures of Central America, Mexico, Samoa, and Europe. Jean is survived by her husband Scott, brother Karl, sister Kathleen, and children Kammi, Kevin and Kip. She also leaves grandchildren Jared, James, Janee, Michael, Matthew, Andrea, Craig, Miles, and Hazel; great grandchildren Drake, Daisy, Keegan, Kameron, Lizzie, Kollin, Ellie, Renee, Cali, Ronin, Michio, Macha, and Miso; and great-great grandchildren Maezie and Lauralee. Her dear daughter Kacee died in 1989, son Kelly in 2015, and grandson Mitchell in 2019. Jean will be missed dearly by family and friends, was a cornerstone of our life, a loving mother and spouse, and she spread her beautiful spirit to many. Cremation has taken place and according to Jean's wishes there will be no memorial service. Memorial gifts can be given to Kacee Cronk Scholarship fund (https://aaacf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=1036) or Doctors Without Borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org/donate).
