Jane E. DeLand

Jane E. DeLand, age 70, of Tecumseh, MI, passed away, March 6, 2022, at Promedica Hickman Hospital. She was born August 6, 1951, in Adrian, MI, the daughter of Willard & Pauline (Tillitson) DeLand. Jane was a graduate of Adrian High School. She then earned her Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Siena Heights University and then her Masters Degree.  Jane always enjoyed doing whatever she could to help others. She dedicated countless hours to serving families through social work, receiving the Carla DeMuth Award for Social Work. Jane especially loved spending time with her two daughters, son in law and cherished granddog, Kapnick.  She is survived by her two daughters, Maya Garcia and Solana (Alan) Steele; three siblings, Jack (Connie) DeLand, Sandra Danon, and Diane (Joe) Bennett; nieces & nephews, Scott (Eva) DeLand, Derek (Kris) DeLand, Cecil Fowler, Leslie (Matt) Granata, Tina Magelkey, and Diane (Humberto) Romero; beloved aunts, Angie DeLand and Mary DeLand; many DeLand cousins, neices & nephews; cherished family members, Victoria Nieto, Jimmy (Shannon) Garcia, Cecilia (Larry) Sharp and Lisa Garcia; and many Garcia grandchildren, nieces nephews and a few lifelong friends, Babe, Harry, Janet, Joyce and Jeannie.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard & Pauline DeLand; the love of her life, Federico "Fred" Garcia; his two children, Rosana and Fred, cherished aunt, Madeline Tillitson; and cherised nephew, Tyreice.  In lieu of flowers we would like donations made to a scholarship fund in Jane's honor. Checks can be made out to Siena Heights University and in the memo section of the check state: “Jane DeLand Scholarship.”  Donations will be accepted at the funeral and given to Siena Heights University to help students each year. Jane would love to continue her legacy helping other succeed.  Funeral Services will be held 6:00 PM Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N.
