James Scott Greene

James Scott Greene, age 85, of Adrian, MI, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Adrian on September 26, 1940, he was the son of Norman and Thelma (White) Greene.  After graduating from Adrian High School, James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a dedicated worker who spent many years at American Chain & Cable until its closure, later retiring from General Motors. Deeply committed to his community, James served as a beloved barber for most of his adult life, was a faithful member of Bethel AME Church, and held active memberships with the NAACP and the UAW Retirees.  James was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Thelma Greene; his beloved wife, Louvenia Greene; and his cherished son, Scott Bell.  His legacy lives on through his stepchildren, Dr. Andrew (Arika) McQueen and Alvenia McQueen; his daughter-in-law, Veronica Bell; and his grandchildren, Alicia Bell, David Estrada, Jonathon Hawkins, Marquelle Gibson, LouAnn McQueen, Olivia McQueen, and Andrew McQueen Jr. He is also survived by his cousins, James (Beverley) White, Theodore (Kasey) White, and Teresa Turner Sharp, alongside many close friends.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, MI, with Pastor Sharrice Autry officiating. Military honors will be performed to recognize his service. Family and friends are welcome for viewing and visitation on Friday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service. Flowers may be sent directly to Purse Funeral Home in his honor.
