James "Semaj" Benson, Sr.

James 'Semaj' Benson Sr., age 50, of Lansing, MI, passed away, July 30, 2023, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI. He was born January 17, 1973, in Chicago, IL, the son of James Burdine & Bessie Benson. He is survived by his 6 children, Raina Grove, James Benson Jr., Dominic Torp, Na’ Aaliyah Benson, Sema’J Benson, and JJ Benson; his grandchildren Raiden Grove and Javier Caldwell; his mother, Bessie Benson; siblings, Deborah Benson, Maurice Benson, Samuel Benson, and Tonnette Benson; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, James Burdine. Viewing & Visitation will be on Monday August 7, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N.
