Obituary

Jack James Gage, 89, passed away on June 17, 2021.  Jack was born October 10, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of L. Jack and Myrtle (Horen) Gage.   He grew up in Plymouth, MI graduating from Plymouth High School in 1949.   Jack attended Michigan State University where he graduated with a degree in journalism. While at MSU, he met and married his wife of 29 years, Nancy L. (Rybolt) in 1953. He served in the United States Army as a second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps at Ft. Monmouth, NJ during the Korean War.  After proudly serving his country, Jack's creativity and love of writing set the course for his career as an advertising copywriter. He first worked for Kelvinator Appliances/ American Motors which allowed him the opportunity to travel all around the world (Europe, Middle East, Latin America, and Asia).  He then spent the rest of his career writing for Ross Roy Advertising in Detroit where he developed ads for Chrysler’s automotive and marine divisions.   Along with Nancy, Jack raised his two children (Michael and Amy) on Grosse Ile, MI (Hickory Island) where he had a great love of the water and sailing.  Jack was a competitive sailboat racer on Lake Erie where he won many awards.  He was always actively engaged with his community- especially on Hickory Island where he held many roles on the community board and with the Hickory Island Yacht Club throughout the years. After the death of his first wife Nancy in 1982, he married Mary Gage (Racey) in 1984.  They eventually moved to Naples, FL where they enjoyed playing tennis, golfing, walks on the beach, and local concerts.  Jack and Mary also had a second home in Winchester, VA where they spent many summers.  Anyone who knew Jack knew they had a true friend. He was known for his quick sense of humor, many jokes, and making people laugh. Jack leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Mary; his son, Michael (Renee LeBon); daughter, Amy Parkhurst (Tim); his brother, Jim Gage (Lila); and nephew, Russ Gage along with many friends along his life's journey. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Brookdale of Adrian, MI for their care and providing a "family atmosphere," the Veterans Association, and the compassionate care provided by Hospice of Lenawee. Jack and his family appreciate all of you.   At Jack's request, cremation will be entrusted to J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home of Adrian, MI (pursefuneralhome.com).  At this time, there are no plans for a memorial service. Jack/ Dad will be missed...we love you! “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I am going there to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  You know the way to the place where I am going.”  --John 14: 2-4
