Gerald Gazda Obituary

Gerald Gazda, age 71, passed on July 23, 2018. He was preceded in passing by Walter and Josephine Gazda, his father and mother, and his sister Carolyn Dziurgot. He is survived by his brother Walter Jr. in Livingston County. He had 4 nephews and one niece. Jerry developed a passion for photography at a very early age and was winning awards by the time he was fifteen years old. Then, the University of Michigan was in his future and so was Vietnam. During the war Jerry shot thousands of photographs chronicling all aspects of the hostilities. He was awarded The Air Medal for “…outstanding achievement while participating in serial flight…”. His work there was in reconnaissance; taking pictures while flying in the back of a Phantom jet. When he left military service, he returned to U of M and received a BGS degree in 1975. That was the start of a long career as a media producer. He did a lot of work in that arena that led to his long associations with Meteor Photo in Troy, MI, and Ron Rose Productions in Southfield and Royal Oak. He received numerous awards for his Photojournalism. Jerry was an eccentric individual with an outrageous sense of humor. He loved to laugh. He had a flare for writing letters to the editor, did so often, and frequently was published in Detroit Newspapers. Military Burial service is at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI, on Tuesday August 14, 2018 at 1:30 PM.
