Emma Jane (Rife) Childress

Emma Jane Childress age 76, of Tecumseh, passed away January 24, 2022 at ProMedica Hickman Hospital due to COVID complications. Emma was born Feb. 3, 1945 in Buchanan County, Virginia, the daughter of Bill and Mary (Mullins) Rife. On May 27, 1963, she married Estil D. Childress in Elizabeth City, NC and he preceded her in death on March 20, 2010. Emma was a very kind southern lady. She was well known for her sweet southern accent. She loved to cook for her family and friends any chance she got and never missed the chance to note everyone's favorite dish. Emma was always looking for a way and would find ways to surprise her children and grandchildren. Calling them out of the blue to come over and pick up a dish she made for them. She worked as a CNA for 17 years at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility. She was well-known for her fudge and cheese balls, especially around the holidays. She would make countless cheese balls and sell them to people who wanted them for their holiday parties. Emma occasionally made sausage gravy over biscuits for her coworkers on the day shift. There was a buzz of excitement and delicious smells that filled the facility. Emma was always very well put together. She got her hair done every week and would not leave the house otherwise. She loved her grandchildren and loved being with them and showing them her love. Emma is survived by her daughter, Dwana (Brian) Wyrick of Tecumseh; son Gregory (Stephanie) Childress of Tecumseh; 3 grandchildren, Shelby (Jordan) Shaw, Cameron,  and Kyle (Mikayla) Wyrick. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Estil; brothers, Clarence Rife, Gilbert Mullins, Sherman Rife and Erenest Rife and sister; Hattie Tickle . Due to COVID a Memorial Service will be held by the family February 20, 2022 at 5pm on zoom.
