Denise Geoffrion Obituary

Denise Geoffrion died on Saturday, August 29, at the home of her sister Lisa, in Lansing, Michigan. She was sixty-three. Denise was a wild child who loved friends and good times. She could be bossy, opinionated and sharp tongued one moment, but then silly, outrageous, and sweet the next. She worked almost as hard as she played, and because of her outgoing personality, spent most of her working years in the hospitality industry and sales, most recently as a door greeter at the Marquette Walmart. The daughter of Pierre Geoffrion and Devonia Jean (Brooks) Geoffrion, and step-daughter of Patricia (Vogt) Geoffrion, Denise was born while her father was in the navy. Denise's mother Devonia Jean died in 1962, when Denise was five, and Patricia joined the boisterous family in 1966. A military family, the Geoffrion kids grew up all over the country, from Camp Pendleton to Annapolis, and points in between, settling in Marquette, Michigan in 1974. Denise was a graduate of Marquette Senior High School, Marquette MI, class of 1975. After high school, she lived in California and Nevada. In California, she opened Scrub and Dub Self-Serve Pet Wash and was a proud business owner for several years. Her love of nature and animals was one of her touchstones, and one of her last works was rescuing and rehabilitating feral kittens around her neighborhood in Lansing. For all of the love in her, Denise could be thoughtless in word and deed, and not only burned her bridges but took to them with gasoline and a blowtorch. Later, she would have regrets but she never understood why her friends and family couldn't simply forgive her and see her as she saw herself -- an open-hearted, simple and Good Person. Denise loved romance, being right, her pets, and a sunny day at the beach. But more than anything in the world, she loved her only child, Garrett Flores Geoffrion, who resides in Marquette, Michigan. Denise is also survived by her parents, Pierre and Patricia Geoffrion of Marquette, sisters Renee Geoffrion, Lisa Geoffrion (Mike Moser), Michelle Geoffrion-Mahler (Jeff Mahler), and brother Gregory (Leticia) Geoffrion. nephews and niece Zach, Nic, and Natalie Mahler, Jake and Carl Geoffrion, Sam and Luke Moser, nine grand-nephews and grand-nieces, and a couple of ex-husbands. She will be sadly missed by many, but especially her high school buddy Anne Jobin Lowe, and her dear friends, Jan Queral of California and Donna Page of Lansing, Michigan. Denise's ashes will be interred in Texas, sharing a grave site with her mother, Devonia Jean. A small family and friends memorial is planned for next spring.
