David James “Dave” Fox, lovingly known as “Uncle Dave,” passed away on May 8, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on August 28, 1957, Dave lived a life that felt more like a collection of stories than a straight line, each one shaped by hard work, stubborn determination, and a deep connection to the people and places he loved. Dave spent much of his life working as a carpenter and roofer. He built things that lasted, not just homes and structures, but also memories in the lives of those around him. He took pride in doing things his way, even when it made the job harder, and anyone who worked alongside him knew he didn’t quit until it was done right. When the workday ended, Dave belonged outdoors. The water was one of his favorite places, especially out on his boat with a fishing pole in hand and time slowing down just enough to matter. Those who knew him best can still picture him there, steady and quiet, in his element. He also had a deep love for his animals, who followed him through life like loyal shadows, always close, always welcome. Dave wasn’t an easy man to define. He was stubborn in a way that could make you shake your head, and he carried a few bad habits that everyone close to him knew well. But those same people also knew what lived underneath all of that: loyalty, humor in his own dry way, and a presence that filled a room even when he wasn’t trying. He is survived by his son, James Fox; his daughters, Cohle Fox and Macey Smith; and his son-in-law, Ryan Smith. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Blake, Jace, Kadence, Aubrey, Hunter, Cloa, and Maeven, each of whom brought a different kind of light into his life and gave him stories he carried proudly. “Uncle Dave” will be remembered in pieces that come alive when people gather and talk about him. In the sound of a boat cutting across water at dawn. In the stubborn way something gets fixed instead of replaced. In laughter that comes out of nowhere because someone says, “Dave would’ve done it like this.” A celebration of life will be planned at a later date, with details to come.
