Daniel "Boone" Lee Perkins, born January 4, 1943, passed away May 5, 2022. Dan was born in Kendallville, IN to Ralph and Isabel Perkins of Lansing, MI. He is survived by his brother John W. (Lorayn) Perkins; nephew Jeffrey W. (Cheryl) Perkins; niece Julie (Andrew) Hays; grand nieces Victoria Hays and Eve Perkins; and grand nephew Ryan Hays. Dan graduated from Sexton HS in 1961 and soon after joined the Air Force. He returned to Lansing to work at various Oldsmobile dealerships in the parts department. ‘Boone’ was an expert in finding the right part for your ‘Olds’ and had many of the part numbers memorized. He continued helping people all through his life. He kept a personal library of shop manuals. Always a fan of Oldsmobile, he loved collecting and working on real cars; and they always had to have the manual shift and heavy duty Police suspension/engine package. ‘Kindness’ was the word always associated with Dan. He would always pitch in and help others and never expect anything in return…often never getting his due credit. He helped re-sod lawns, build terrace walls, and restore antique cars for others. He helped sponsor car shows in Lansing and enjoyed selling his automotive treasures at many swap meets. He would have that red truck filled to the brim. Among his favorite things were making large cardboard humorous birthday hats for everyone and going to restaurants and ‘topping his meal off’ with a cheesecake dessert. Eventually his multiple health issues caught up with him. Fortunately, he did not suffer before the good Lord took him home. Dan’s kindness will certainly be rewarded in Heaven. The family is planning a celebration of Dan’s life later this year. Donations in his name may be made to the organization of your choice.
