Alice Lewis Obituary

Alice M. Lewis, Martha “Alice” Mary Lewis, age 90, of Britton passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at her home under Hospice of Lenawee care. Alice was born on July 3, 1930 to Garland and Geraldine Orr Osburn.  After graduating from Tecumseh High School in 1950, she worked at the “Button Factory” at the Hayden/Ford Mill.  She married the love of her life, Leon Lewis, on Sept. 5, 1953.  They had been married for 67 years.  Leon survives. Alice and Leon lived all their married life on a farm surrounded by the beautiful flower gardens she created, planted, and cared for.  She helped with the family egg business for many years, sewed beautiful garments, quilted, knitted, painted gorgeous sceneries and sunsets, raised fruit trees, and made the best pies ever!  According to her son Dan, “She had such a green thumb that she could plant a broomstick and it would grow!”  Alice was a member of the Raisin Presbyterian Church for most of her life and provided a bouquet of fresh flowers for the pulpit every Sunday from her garden. Alice is survived by her devoted and loving husband Leon; son, Daniel Lewis of Britton; and daughters, Kathryn (Nathan) Smith of Tecumseh, and Beth Lewis of Adrian; three grandsons, Bradley (Danielle) Lewis of Fort Wayne, IN, Adam Smith (Courtney Elliott) of Nashville, TN, and Jason (Katie) Smith; and six great-grandchildren, Tristan, Dominic, Lydia, Jaydon, Analida, and Carolyn. Coming from a family of ten children, she is survived by one sister, Joyce (Gerald) Gentry of Coldwater, MI; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Douglas (Paula) Lewis; and siblings, David Osburn, Elizabeth Gould, Margaret Burnor, Bruce Osburn, William Osburn, Robert Osburn, Lawrence Osburn, and Joseph Osburn. Due to Covid Restrictions, a private graveside service will be held. Arrangements will be handled by J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home in Tecumseh.  Condolences to the family and memorial contributions in Alice’s name may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or Raisin Presbyterian Church.
