Susan Kaye Gardner (MacDougall), Age 79, of Jackson, MI and formerly of Interlochen, MI, passed away October 10, 2019. Susan was born February 6, 1940 in Detroit, MI to Esther Ruth (Steeneck) and Wm. Curtis MacDougall. Susan moved to Interlochen, MI in 1968 and for 29 years was employed at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in the food service department. She married Edward W. Gardner, Jr. on July 19th, 1996. Ed was the navigator on the B-17 bomber, Buzz Blonde during WWII, and Sue and Ed enjoyed traveling to the 303rd Bomb Group reunions throughout the United States, Great Britain and Scotland for many years. Faith was very important to both Sue and Ed, and they attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Traverse City, as well as St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Beulah. As a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Susan enjoyed participating in the annual Kirking of the Tartans, proudly wearing her kilt in honor of her family heritage. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Ed, her sister, Janet Dettling, brother in law Charles Dettling, niece Catherine Dettling, nephew James Barth, and great nephew Andrew Thompson. Susan is survived by nephew’s Curt (Brenda) Dettling, Joe (Mary Ann) Dettling, and Bruce (Michelle) Dettling, nieces Debra Barth, Cheryl (Dave) Bauer, Pam Wilson and Jill (Greg) Bondy, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 26th at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Beulah MI, from 10:00 a.m. until the memorial service at 11:30 a.m with Rev. Dr. Anne Hebert officiating. A luncheon at the church will follow the memorial service. Inurnment will take place at the Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Columbarium in Traverse City at 3:00 p.m., with Deacon Rene Hoenscheid presiding. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
