Russell James Aiuto, Sr., age 90, of Manchester, passed away June 18, 2019 with his family at his side. He was born October 11, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Vito and Mary (Paleo) Aiuto. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Manchester and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Father Fisher Council 4354 for 59 years. Russ is an Army veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed playing cards and going out with his metal detector to find fun treasures. On May 30, 1953 he married Bernita Coval in Manchester who preceded him in death on July 14, 2017. Surviving are his children, Kathleen Cornell of Manchester, Russell Aiuto, Jr. of Manchester, Lorraine (Paul) Meinhart of Bloomfield Hills, Nicholas Aiuto of Manchester and daughter in law, Teri Aiuto of Manchester. He was the proud grandfather of Amy (Phil), Megan (Steve), Leigh (Jason), Lauren (Scott), Nicholas (Julia), Michelle (Nick), Melanie, Bryce and Trent; great granddaughters, Morgan, Maisyn, and Norah; his sister, Frances Murphy of Tecumseh; several nieces and nephews and his "other kids" Scott and Lisa Poet of Manchester. In addition to his wife, Bernita, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Salvatore (Sam) and Bartlette (Bart) and son in law, Chuck Cornell. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Manchester with the Rev. Fr. Bosco Padamattummal officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester with military honors performed by the United States Army Honor Guard Team. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, June 24, 2019, with Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Visitation will also take place at the church Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 10:00 A. M. until the time of Mass. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Mary Roman Catholic Church or the Manchester Fire Department.
