Richard Carter, 94, formerly of Tipton, MI passed away May 25, 2017 in Phoenix, AZ where he has resided since retirement in 1985. Dick, as he preferred to be called, was born in Toledo, Ohio. He learned his trade as a journeyman electrician under his father and went on to work for the Tecumseh Products until he joined the US Army in 1942. He served in the European Theater with the 1291st Engineer Battalion as a Master Mechanic with the rank of Master Sgt. and was discharged after the war in 1946. He returned to work for the Products until his retirement in 1986. He married Helen J. Carter of Tipton, who preceded him in death in 2014 after 70 years of marriage. Richard is survived by his children, Richard (Bonnie) Carter, Kathryn (Preston) Miller and Phillip (Sheila) Carter; grandsons, Michael, Matthew, Dale, Nicholas and Ethan; granddaughters, Renee, Jennifer and Elizabeth; brother, Gerald (Joyce) Carter; 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents, Herbert and Alice Carter and a great granddaughter, Kimberlee. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Rev. Alan Maki officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery, Tipton with military honors provided by the US Army Honor Guard.
