Mike Smiley Sr., age 59, of Brooklyn, Michigan, passed away on June 26, 2019 in Adrian, Michigan. He was born on August 19, 1959 in East St. Louis, Illinois. Mike is survived by his loving parents Martin and Bonnie Smiley; brother Marty (Leila) Smiley, sister Kellie Smiley, son Michael (Jodi) Smiley Jr, daughter Andrea (Robert) Blatchford; grandchildren: Samantha Hebert, Tyler Hebert, Alana Smiley, Jacob Blatchford and Wyatt Blatchford, and one great-grandchild Carson Furrow; as well as nieces and nephews. Mike graduated from Chino Hills High School, in Chino Hills, California. Shortly after graduation Mike moved to Brighton, Michigan and married Yvonne Sherrod, they were married for 23 years and she survives. Mike worked for Local 357 Glass & Glazing during his 27 year career. Mike enjoyed working on home improvement projects, was talented with woodworking and glass. He enjoyed participating in fishing tournaments and especially loved fishing with his grandkids and re-telling stories (or arguing), about who caught the biggest fish. Mike had a great sense of humor and maintained his sense of humor even during difficult times. Mike was a big Michigan Wolverine’s Fan, and if you ever had the pleasure of being in the neighborhood during a game, you could hear him hollering at the television cheering for his team. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home at 210 W. Pottawatamie St., Tecumseh, MI 49286 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a Celebration of Life Service officiated by Pastor Tim Butterfield immediately following at 4:00 PM. Donations may be made to Hospice of Lenawee.
