Lillian Burgess Obituary

Lillian Mae Burgess, age 92, of Swanton, OH, passed away peacefully March 2, 2018, at home surrounded by her family. She was born April 4, 1925, in Estill, KY, the daughter of John David Tufts, Sr. & Bessie Mae (Bates) Tufts. Shortly after her birth, Lillian's family moved to Wayland, KY. She then came to Adrian, MI, in 1950, where she met the love of her life, Woodrow Burgess. From there they started their family in Palmyra, MI.  Lillian worked at Revco in Deerfield, MI for 19 years, later retiring from Adrian College.  She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Bob) Newsom and Tammy (Chris) Pate, her grandchildren, Jonikka Jones, Amberlee Newsom, Jessica Jenner, Brittany Smith, Stephanie Avila and David Burgess, nine great grandchildren, two brothers, John David Tufts, Jr. and Charles Henry (Dee) Tufts and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, Curtis Tufts, her one son, Michael Burgess and a sister in infancy, Doris Evelyn Tufts.  Visitation will be on Thursday, March 8, 2018, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, MI 49221. At the family's request, private burial will take place in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh, MI.
