Lee David Smith, 73, of Addison, MI, passed away on June 15, 2019 in Jackson, MI, surrounded by family and loved ones, after losing his short battle with lung cancer. He was born to Adaline and George Smith on September 26, 1945, in Addison, MI. Lee graduated from Onsted High School in 1964, and after graduation, he joined the Army. He was first deployed to Germany, and then to Vietnam. He served 2 tours, operating as a mechanic and then became a driver of an ammunition truck. After receiving multiple honors and medals, Lee returned home to continue his career as a semi truck driver, and was later self-employed, allowing him the freedom to enjoy what he loved, being outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing dearly. He suffered a debilitating stroke in 2004, from which he partially recovered, yet lost the use of his right arm with partial speech loss. He still found the why to continue the use of his hunting and fishing skills. Lee is survived by a daughter, Sandra Spencer, and partner Janice, two grandchildren, Shawni and Seth Spencer, sisters Katha (Steve) Hamilton of Manitou Beach, Ruth (Jim) Hadden of Onsted, brothers Ed Miller of Addison and Bruce (Cathy) Wilson of Onsted, many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews, and several friends. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Adaline and George Smith, two step-fathers, Burt Miller and Wayne Wilson, both sets of grandparents, Carl and Mabel Smith and Howard and Ida Miller, and most recently, by nephew Scott Hadden. Cremation has taken place with a full military honors ceremony to follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield, MI, on Sunday, June 23rd, at 1:00pm . Family ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a Hospice Care Organization of your choice.
