Barry Lamar Hawkins   May 4, 1955 - November 26, 2017

Barry Lamar Hawkins, beloved son of Pearline and Lewis Sykes was born May 5, 1955 in Memphis, Tennessee. Barry attended Detroit Public Schools. Barry’s first marriage was to Chandra Tate and this union produced one son, Barris.  Barry’s second marriage was to Jill Birg and this union produced three sons. Barry was preceded in death by his loving wife Jill, mother and father. Barry leaves behind to cherish his memory sons: Barris (Glenda), Austin, Donovan and Grant; and grandchildren: Larissa, Linden, and Zara. Siblings: Kim (Tony), Trisha, Steven and Krista (Darrin).  A host of aunts, uncles, cousin and friends.  Barry was a renowned cook and singer.  His love for music began at a young age. He was able to play the guitar by ear. He was a member of a group he founded with his then girlfriend Chandra along with others. He was always happy to be around his family and friends blessing them with the sweet sound of his voice.  He was the highlight of every gathering once he started singing. He especially loved singing music from the Spinners, Harold Melvin and other Motown artists. He was a loving son, brother, father, and person flaws and all. If he fell down, he always bounced right back up. He never stopped trying to improve and grow both spiritually and emotionally until he grew weary of the struggle. He will be greatly missed.
