Marius Sas Obituary

Marius Doru Sas, 49, died Thursday, October 16th, 2020, after losing his battle with cancer. Dorin, as family was calling him, had been battling cancer for the last six years and put up a courageous fight. Dorin is survived by his beloved sister Dorina, his brother-in-law Ionica, his cherished niece Alina with her family, as well as his nephew Ionut. He will also be missed by his cousins, Dana and Camelia alongside their families, and mourned by his aunt Ileana and his extended family in Romania. Marius was born on December 26th, 1970 in Sighetu Marmatiei, Maramures county, Romania, as the son of Petru Sas and Irina (Sas) Lucaciu. His passion as a young boy was soccer, and he played on his hometown's team during his teenage years. Dorin's favorite team was Universitatea Craiova. After moving to the United States, he specifically set aside each Sunday afternoon so he could watch the Romanian Soccer Championship. Though Dorin was small and thin in stature, he never allowed this to slow him down. Usually when you picture someone doing manual labor, you expect to see a tall and muscular man, but Dorin was just the opposite. His energy made you second-guess his fragility, and the speed with which he got things done made you question whether physical strength really lies within or is man-made ambition. During his teenage years for example, when most of his friends were away on their summers either camping in the mountains or at the beach, he instead chose to spend time working alongside his grandfather who was a woodworker. Those years were among the most special of his life, and he credited his grandfather with showing him the beauty of working with your hands. He was grandmother's favorite after all, and those summers were also the most special because his grandmother always showed him much love and admiration, and always ensured he was well taken-care-of and looked after. In 2006, Dorin emigrated to the United States to pursue his American dream. A man of small stature who basically almost always wore his heart on his sleeve, Dorin reinvented himself in the United States and would later become the owner of a successful landscaping business. With faith, ambition, hard work and determination, he built a new life for himself. At times it was not easy, especially when he found himself fighting the battles life had thrown at him and even working through something as simple as language barriers, he did not give up in pursuing his goals. One year after being diagnosed with cancer, he unexpectedly lost his beloved mother Irina, and found himself pretty much alone once more. This loss had a great impact on his life and soul, and though he never liked to talk about it, we believe he never truly recovered from it. Dorin was full of life and adventure, and he had a bright smile that lit up his entire face. His energy was contagious, and he was especially funny. He never shied away from trying new things, and starting new adventures. Dorin was a lovely person inside and out, and showed kindness when least expected. Most importantly, he was an optimist who never complained, and very rarely asked for a favor. He was a modest and humble person, and his tenacity will always be admired. Despite the pain, he was determined to fight and win the cancer battle; he tried every traditional, alternative, and complementary medical treatment that was offered to him by his doctors. He lived his life to the fullest, no matter how hard it was at times. Today  he  is released of all  human thought  and worries, and is a free soul in God's hands. We  will always remember and cherish  your memory, our dear Dorin. May  God rest your soul in peace until we will see each other again. Friends may visit at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, 2959  N.
