Helen E. Hodges

Tecumseh

Helen E. Hodges, age 92, of Tecumseh, passed away
quietly at her home May 18, 2007.  Helen was born in
Toledo, Ohio on  August 22, 1914 the daughter of
Edward and Edith (Poppenger) Leighton.  When she was a
few months old the family moved to Tecumseh and she
was a resident of the community for the remainder of
her life.  After graduation from Tecumseh High School
in 1932 she became a teller with the United Savings
Bank at its original location on the northwest corner
of Chicago Boulevard and Evans Street.  Later she was
the secretary to William Berkhoff, the superintendent
of the Tecumseh Public Schools.  On Thanksgiving day,
November 26, 1936 she married B. Dwight Hodges and
they enjoyed nearly 51 years together.  After her
children were grown she became the secretary of the
First United Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh and later
resumed employment as a teller for the United Savings
Bankat the Herrick Park Branch, retiring in 1974. 
Helen was a life member of the Eastern Star and the
Tecumseh Area Historical Society.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and knitting and made
beautiful bedspreads and pillows of her own design.
She enjoyed traveling and, with her husband, was
active in the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed attending
Adrian Symphony Orchestra concerts, Opera Lenawee
productions, plays and musicals at the Croswell Opera
house and the Tecumseh Civic Auditorium as well as
programs sponsored by the Tecumseh Area Historical
Society.  She loved being a grandmother and had many
wonderful times with her granddaughters Kirsten and
Sherri who will greatly miss their "grandma."
Helen is survived by her daughter Jane (Ronald) Wyatt
of Port Austin, MI and her son Edward of Tecumseh, Two
granddaughters, Kristen (John) Allen of Ypsilanti and
Sherri (Christopher) Halucha of Hampton Bays, NY and
four great grandchildren
Besides her husband Dwight, she was preceded in death
by her parents; five sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P. M. Tuesday, May 22,
2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.  Visitation
will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P. M. Monday, May 21, 2007 at
the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Betty Jo Bradley

Betty Jo Bradley, age 76,  of Adrian, passed on to
meet her Lord, 
May 22, 2007 at her home.

Betty was born July 24. 1930 in Paintsville, KY, to
William and Hulda (Sparks) Nichols.  On May 6, 1950,
she married Isaac Bradley, Jr. and he preceded her in
death on April 9, 2004.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharlotte Cundiff and
her husband Robert of Adrian; grandchildren, Joely of
Adrian, Corey and his wife Gay of Adrian, Nathan and
his wife Mary of Onsted,
and Simon and his wife Sarah of Onsted; great
grandchildren, Emily. Elizabeth, Ariel, Christopher,
and Isaac; many nieces, nephews, brother, sisters in
law, and many friends all who will miss her.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, William
and Hulda Nichols; sisters, Alice Waugh, Mavis
Hammonds, Mary Allen, and Martha Nichols; and
brothers, Edward, Donald, and Delbert Nichols.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, May
25, 2007 at 
J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with
Pastor Frank Howard officiating.  

Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens,
Tecumseh, MI.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday and
from 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral service on Friday
at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

MILO (MIKE) S. STUDNICKA



Milo S. Studnicka, age 83, of Tecumseh, passed away
May 23, 2007,
Milo was born August 14, 1923 in Ogden Center,
Michigan, the son of Anthony and Helen (Froelich)
Studnicka.    Milo was a veteran of the U. S. Army
serving during World War II as a squad leader in the
Southern Phillipines and New Guinea.  He received many
military honors for his tour of duty.  Milo worked at
Tecumseh for forty four and a half years retiring in
February, 1990.  He was a lifetime  member of the
Tecumseh American Legion and the Adrian VFW.  Some of
his loves were hunting, fishing, winemaking, and he
was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan.
Milo is survived by his three daughters Debra (Dennis)
Kelley of Deltona, Fl.,  Diana (James) Morton of
Denver, CO, and Deana Studnicka of Denver, CO; six
grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister,
Mildred Wood of CA.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters
Frances and Mary Ann; and three brothers Henry,
Charles, and Leslie. 
Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Saturday, May 26,
2007 at the
J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with the Rev.
Fr. Daniel Wheeler officiating.  Burial will follow in
Brookside Cemetery with military honors conducted by
the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34 and the Tecumseh
VFW Post #4187.  Visitation will be 4 - 8 P. M.
Friday, May 25, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral

Whitmore Lake, MI

Helen M. Sibson, age 88, of Whitmore Lake, passed away
May 25, 2007. Helen was born January 28, 1919 in Dansville, MI the
daughter of Myron and Rose (Elford) Corwin, Jr.    She married Henry
Lehman and he preceded her in death.  In 1965 she
married Earl Sibson.  He preceded her in death on December 22, 2005. 

Her loves in life were baking and
dancing.   Helen retired from the Whitmore Lake
Schools as a bus driver.  She was a member of the
Hamburg VFW. Helen is survived by three children David (Sandy)
Lehman, Anna Rose Mann, and Dale (Sue) Lehman; three
step children Sharon (John) Kennedy, Paul (Janann)
Sibson and Phillip Sibson;  13 grandchildren  Sonja,
Lonnie, John Jr., Troy, Shari. Julie, Teri, Tami,
Dion, Tina, Barry, Brian, and Danette; and several
great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her

 Crit Mills, age 80, of Adrian, passed away May 7,
 2007.
 

 Crit was born November 19, 1926 in Barboursville, KY
 the son of Ike and Fannie (Smith) Mills.  In
 February 13, 1947 he married Beatrice Gregory in Fount,
 Kentucky.  She preceded him in death on July 8, 1991.
 

He was a wonderful father and will be greatly missed
 by his family.  He loved to fish, hunt, and garden.
 Crit is survived by three sons Ellis of Jackson,
 Crit
 ,Jr. of Corbin, KY,  and Lonnie Ray of Jackson;
 three
 daughters  Carol (John) Croad of Adrian, Martha (
 (Bernie) Bryant of Somerset Center, MI and Troy

 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

 Beverly J. McGown, age 63, of Adrian, passed away
 enexpectantly  May 11, 2007. 

Beverly was born February 15, 1944 in
 Tecumseh, Michigan the daughter of Leroy and Mary
 Alice (Kitchen) Bowers.  On May 31, 1985 she married
 George McGown in Ironton, Ohio.  He preceded her in
 death.  She was very much loved and will be deeply missed by all.
 

Beverly is survived by four daughters  Tammy
 (Timothy) Black, Tracy (John) Pratt, Tiffaney Spiegel, and Amy
 (Derek) Kozumplik all of Adrian; one sister Alice
 Karr of Adrian; one brother Garry Bowers of Lakeland, FL;
and 11 grandchildren
 Besides her husband George, she was preceded in
 death by her parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.

 Cynthia Childers Avalos. age 37, of Hudson, passed
 away May 15, 2007  Cynthia was born July 2, 1969 in
 Hudson, Michigan the daughter of James Childers, Sr.
 and Sharon Childers.  On February 22, 2002 she
 married Guy Avalos.  He survives. 

 She was a beautiful, caring
 person that will be greatly missed by all.
 Besides her husband Guy, Cynthia is survived by her
 parents James Childers, Sr. and Sharon Sutherland;
 her daughter Shandi; son Scott;  granddaughter Kelsey;
 brothers, sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

TOMMY LEE BROWN

Tecumseh, MI

Tommy Lee Brown, age 57, of Tecumseh, passed away May 25, 2007.
 

Tommy was born October 8, 1949, in Walnut Ridge,
Arkansas,  the son of Homer Lee and Lorine (Williams)
Brown.   In Tommy's younger years, he enjoyed hunting,
fishing, riding dirt bikes, canoeing and camping,
Some of his other joys were playing cards,  table
games and  collecting sports cards  and  coins. 
Tom is survived by his parents, Joe and Lorine Baker
of Alicia, Arkansas and his former in laws David and
Ada Stiles of Tecumseh; two sons Tommy Lee Brown, Jr.
and Timothy John (Marcy) Brown, both of Tecumseh;
daughter Terri Lynn (John Ernest) Watson of Westland;
six grandchildren Joshua, Ashlee, Jocelyn, and Nathan
Brown,  Megan and Elijah Watson; two brothers Ronnie
(Barb) Brown and Bobby Joe (Natalie) Baker of
Arkansas.  He is also survived by his former wife
Cheryl (Scott) Wain of Ypsilanti; sister in laws Lee
Ann (Chuck) Randolph and Cindy (Chuck) Loomis; brother
in law David (Gail) Stiles; and several nieces and
nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.
 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, May 29,
2007 at the Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene with the
Rev. Ray Hansen officiating.  Burial will follow in
Ridgeway Cemetery,  Ridgeway.  Visitation will be
4 - 8 P. M.  Monday, May 28, 2007 at the J. Gilbert

Roy "Whitey" Taylor
 
 Roy "Whitey" Taylor, age 62, of Adrian, passed
 away May 24, 2007 at Herrick Hospital in Tecumseh after
 a brief illness.  Whitey was born February 9, 1945
 in Middlesboro, Ky the son of Roy and Georgia
 (Turner) Taylor.   

He attended the Monroe Public Schools.
 He retired from the Tecumseh Products in 1998 after
 32 years of service.  Whitey was a member of Grace
 Lutheran Church in Monroe when he served as  head
 usher and their sound technician. 
 

Whitey is survived by his special friend, Marie;
 three brothers, Reno of Newport, Ronald of Monroe, and
 Robert of Palm Bay, FL; four sisters Faye (Jerry )
 Stromberger, Joyce (Tim) Proskie, Barbara
 (Clayton) Wilson and Brenda (Doug) Stowell of Dundee; 16
 nieces and nephews.
 
 He was preceded in death by his parents, a step
 father
 Edward Connolly, 2 brothers Gillis and Richard,
 sister
 Elizabeth and a niece Angela Farris.
 At Whitey's request cremation has taken place.
 There will be no visitation.   A memorial service will be
held at a later date.

 12 WILMA ALICE TUBBS

Britton, MI

Wilma Alice Tubbs, age 79, of Britton, passed away on
May 27, 2007 in her home after a long, courageous fight with
cancer, in which she never gave up.  She lived her
entire life within the Britton area.  She was born
September 11, 1927, in Britton the daughter of Charles
and Wanda (Lembrick) McCarbery.  She graduated from
Britton High School in 1945.  On June 18, 1948 she
married the love of her life, LaVon Tubbs.  He
preceded her in death in December 1989. 

She retired from Tecumseh Corrugated Box in 1994, with over thirty
years of service. 

Wilma is survived by four daughters, Linda (Tim) Gibbs
of Britton, Janis (Mark) Hanke of Acworth, GA, Marcia
(Jim) Knox of Sand Creek, Brenda Valentino of Wheaton,
IL; grandchildren Chad (LaToya) Gibbs of Britton,
Tyler (Danielle) Gibbs of Britton, Cpl. Nathan Hanke
of Camp Lejeune, NC, Adam Hanke of Acworth, GA,
Heather, Jessica, and Ryan Knox of Sand Creek,
Christine Valentino of Wheaton, IL; three great
grandsons Gabriel and Xavier Gibbs of Britton and Cole
Gibbs of Britton; one brother Dale McCarbery of
Britton; two sisters Joyce (LeRoy) Bater of Tecumseh
and Fern (Clair) Morse of Tecumseh and numerous nieces
and nephews. 
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband,
LaVon and one sister, Doris Spohr.
 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Friday, June 1,
2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with the Rev.
Richard Bruce officiating.  Wilma will be buried in
Ridgeway Cemetery beside her husband.  Visitation will
be 6 -8 P. M. Wednesday, May 30, 2007 and 4 -8 P. M.
Thursday, May 31, 2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral
Home, Tecumseh.

Florence V. Hoffman, age 82, of Adrian, passed away
May 18, 2007. 

Florence was born April 18, 1925, the daughter of Victor and Maria Jackson. 

On December 23, 1953 she married David M. Hoffman in Jackson,
Michigan. 

He preceded her in death on September 7, 2006.
 

She was a loving and caring mother.
 

Florence is survived by her children Deborah (Charlie)
Johnson of Osseo, Barbara Hunt of Daytona Beach, FL,
and Gary Hoffman of Toledo; one sister Jean Peterson
of L'anse, MI; six grandchildren and four great
grandchildren. 

Besides her husband David, she was preceded in death
by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Neva Cubberly



Tecumseh, MI

Neva Cleo Cubberly, age 91, of Tecumseh, passed away
May 31, 2007.
 

Neva was born February 3, 1916  in  Adrian, Michigan
the daughter of  Dalpha and Edna (Wheeler) Remmele. 
On September 23, 1937 she married Halbert H. Cubberly
in Adrian.  He preceded her in death on July 7, 1965.
 

 Neva was a 1934 graduate of Adrian High School and  a
lifelong resident of Lenawee County, living in
Tecumseh for the past 58 years.  She was very artistic
and musical, playing viola in the Adrian High School
orchestra.  She was a gardener and her favorite hobby
was collecting roosters.  Neva regularly attended the
Clinton Assembly of God church and was active in their
women's group. 
 

Neva is survived by one daughter Donna Cubberly of
Tecumseh; two sons James (Doris) Cubberly of Villa
Park, Illinois and Thomas (Kim) Cubberly of Michigan
Center; five grandchildren Carolyn (Hassan) Anahid,
Kaily Cubberly, Susan (Markus) Dittrich, David
Cubberly, and Christopher Cubberly; two great
grandchildren
Parisa and Sahra Anahid; and numerous nieces and
nephews.

Besides her husband Halbert, Neva was preceded in
death by one son Robert, brother Clarence, and sisters
Elma and Nora.
 

Funeral services will be 1:00 P. M. Saturday, June 2,
2007 at the Clinton Assembly of God Church with the
Rev. Richard Coury officiating.  Burial will follow in

William G. Rimell

 

DATELINE: ADRIAN

William G. Rimell, 83, of Adrian went to be with the
Lord on June 6, 2007, in the comfort of his own home.


He was born September 8, 1923 in Defiance, Ohio, the
son of John and Mildred (Killey) Rimell.  On May 9,
1942 he married Arlene Powers.

 In January 1943 he joined the Marines.  He was in
three campaigns; Roi-Namur, Marshall Islands; Saipan;
and Tinian, Marianas Islands.  He was a member of the
American Legion Post #97.

 Bill is survived by his wife, Arlene, of 65 years.
Two daughters, Sherry (Nelson) Stevens of Adrian;
Pamela Weasner of Bellevue, Ohio; one son, Patrick

Arlene L Randolph, age 78, of Tecumseh, passed away
June 5, 2007
after battling cancer for the last several years.
Arlene was born April 1, 1929 in Tecumseh, Michigan
the daughter of Seaman and Ethel (Steele) Martin.  On
March 18 , 1946 she married Kenneth L. Randolph in
Tecumseh.  He preceded her in death on September 26,
1995.  

She was a loving mother and grandmother and
will be missed by all.
Arlene is survived  by six children, David ( Kay)
Randolph of Tecumseh,  Richard (Linda) Randolph of
Brooklyn, Ronald (Sue) Randolph,  of Tecumseh, Linda
(William) Smith of Tipton, Dennis (Carol) Randolph of
Adrian  and Kenneth  (Patsy) Randolph, Jr. of Bedford,
KY; one sister Mildred Moyer of Tecumseh; 16
grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and numerous
nieces and nephews. 
 

Besides her husband Kenneth, Arlene was preceded in
death by her parents,  several brothers and sisters
and one great grandson, Levi Williams.
 

Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Friday, June 8,
2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh,
with the Rev.  Lloyd Jewett officiating.  Burial will
follow in Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh.  Visitation

Tecumseh

Edna Buck, age 89, of Tecumseh, formerly of Clinton,
died Monday
morning, June 4, 2007 at Tendercare in Adrian.  Edna
was born November 2, 1917 in Dundee, Michigan the
daughter of Bert and Johanna (Merryfield) Brown.  On
July 10, 1961 she married Lester Buck.  He preceded
her in death. 
Edna is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Brenda Light of
Florida; one grandson Joshua Eaton of Clinton; one
granddaughter Tarah Eaton; one great grandson Gavin
Eaton of Florida and one sister Delia Austin of
Dundee.
According to Edna's wishes cremation has taken place.
Burial of cremains will take place at a later date in
Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg.  Arrangements were

Allen Dean Perry, age 51, of Petersburg, passed away
June 7, 2007.
Allen was born October 6, 1955 in Monroe, Michigan thethe
son of Norman and Barbara (Davis) Perry.  

He was a skilled carpenter until retiring due to ill health. 
Allen lived with his sister, Norma for the last few
years of his life
 

Allen is survived by his son Adam D. Perry of Milan;
granddaughter Kloe; two sisters Norma Durbin of
Petersburg and Linda (Richard) Tabbert of Blissfield;
brother Ed (Gail) Perry of Adrian; several nieces and
nephews including one very special nephew, Allen J.
Durbin; and two great nieces.
According to Allen's wishes, cremation has taken
place.

Jasmyn Elizabeth Lauer, age 10 months, passed away,
June 7, 2007.

Jasmyn was born August 15, 2006, in New London, Conn.,
the daughter of Shawn and Stephanie (Salen) Lauer.

Jasmyn Elizabeth is survived by her parents, Shawn and
Stephanie; one brother, Tyler Salen; maternal
grandparents Debbie (Michael) Ball and  David (Sharon)
Salen; Paternal grandparents, Maureen Kelly, Margaret
Conley; great grandmothers Gladys Coher, Dotty Dillman
and Ruth Ann Kelly and numerous cousins
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather
William Lauer.

Funeral services were 3:00 P. M. Monday, June 11, 2007
at the

Neil Dezelske officiating.   Visitation was from 1:00
to 3:00 pm Monday, June 7th

Tecumseh, MI

Marjorie M. Bell, age 88, of Tecumseh, passed away
June 8, 2007 at Sun Rise Assisted Living in Ann Arbor.
 

Marjorie was born May 31, 1919 in  Hillsdale County
the daughter of William and Effie Fosbender.   

On November 29,1945 she married Frederick Bell.  He
preceded her in death on December 5, 1969. 

She was a registered nurse for many years at Herrick Memorial
Hospital. 
 

Marjorie is survived by one son Jeffrey Bell of
Honolulu, HI;  her twin sister Marie Richardson of
Hillsdale and numerous nieces and nephews. 
 

Funeral services will be 2:30  P. M. Thursday, June
14, 2007 at the  J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with the  Rev.
Chris Cadwallader officiating. 

Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.

Barbara L. Wiemer, age 63, of Tecumseh, passed away
June 9, 2007 at home. 

Barbara was born March 26, 1944 in
Ypsilanti, MI  the daughter of Troy and Lavern
(Partain) Wallace.  On July 27, 1962 she married
Daniel Wiemer in Tecumseh.  He survives. 

She graduated from Tecumseh High School.  Barbara was a
long time bus driver for Lenawee County schools.  
 

Besides her husband Daniel, Barbara is survived by her
mother, Lavern Wallace; three sons Mark (Beth), Danny,
and Derek (Kristin); seven  grandchildren Josh, Devin,
Brianna, Dalton, Lilah, Bryan, and Hannah; several
nieces and nephews.  and a dear friend, Judy Hanna.
She was preceded in death by her father, Troy and
brother Kenny Wallace.
 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday,  June 13, 2007 at the
J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with the Rev Dennis Taylor officiating.  Burial will follow at

Britton, MI

Maurice J. Willaert, age 76, of Britton passed away
June 10, 2007
of complications from colon cancer surrounded by his
devoted family.  Maurice was born January 10, 1931 in
Monroe to Jerome and Mary (Vandevelde) Willaert.  He
married his loving wife Susann Bauer  in Monroe on May
29, 1954.  She survives.  Maurice was a member of the
first graduating class of Monroe Catholic Central High
School in 1948.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Army
Signal Corp serving in the Korean War.   Maurice was
employed by General Telephone Company, retiring in
1995.  He also was engaged in farming.  Maurice was  a
member of St. Irene's Catholic Church in Dundee and
the Ridgeway Township Planning Commission.  His
hobbies included antique and toy tractors.
In addition to his wife, Susann, Maurice is survived
by his seven children, Joan (David) Barrett of
Plymouth, MI, Janice (Gene) Ford of Blissfield, Mark
(Sue) Willaert of Britton, Steve Willaert of Ann
Arbor
, Linda (Art) Schnabele of Blissfield, Patty
(Tim) Walker of South Bend, IN and Mary Ellen (Matt)
Schwartz of LaPorte, IN.; nine grandchildren, Beth
Barrett, Andy and Eric Ford, Kyle, Nathan and Becky
Willaert, Evan Schnabele, Reilly Walker and Jamey
Schwartz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister
Margaret Zurlinden and brother, Richard Willaert.

Tom is survived by his mother Gloria Cameron, sister,

Darren Cameron, several nieces and nephews, and his step mother Jodi Spurr-Manny.

He was preceded in death by fathers, William James

Family and friends attended a viewing prior to the funeral service.

Garnet A. "Woody" Woodson, age 60, of Adrian, died
June 15, 2007,
at Foote Hospital, Jackson. 

He was born January 25, 1947, in Oak Hill, West
Virginia, the son of Lilla Ethel Thomas.  She preceded
him in death in 1992.

Woody is survived by his daughter, Sue Woodson; former
wife, Betty Woodson; sisters, Candis Rosansky, Sharon
Thomas, and Kathy Jo Thomas; many nieces, nephews, his
loving dog, Egor; and many other furry friends. 

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by
a brother in law, Jim Thomas, and mother & father in
law, Dorothy and Earl Burlingame.

Memorial services will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday, June
17, 2007 at
 J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with Captain
Gordon Knight officiaitng.

 Visitation will also be on Monday from 6:00 p.m.

Gary R. Worden "Red Bone", age 68, of Jerome, passed
away June 17, 2007, at home, under the care of Great
Lakes Hospice. 

He was born April 1, 1939 in Stockbridge, MI the son
of
Raymond and Fern (Osterlie) Worden.  On July 6, 1996
he married Sandy K. Walkowe at Stagecoach  Stop in the
Irish Hills.  She survives .

Gary was retired from Ford Motor Company, Saline
Plant.  He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson
motorcycle
with his friends in the Ghostriders,  Gary took
pleasure caring many animals, especially his beloved
dog, Roxie.
Gary first love was piddling around old Ford trucks. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and son,
Stephen.

In addition to his wife, Sandra, Gary is survived by 5
children, Gary E. Worden, Julie Jean Worden, and Patti
Lou Worden, all of Jackson; Katherine D. Worden of
Jerome, and Sandra (Joe) Wright of Brooklyn;
step son, Jeff Walkowe Cabool, MO; 7 granchildren;
brother Fred Worden of Saline,  and 2 sisters,
Marilyn Baker of Adrian, and Carolyn Sande of Chelsea.


Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday

 29 Leona Rose (Tuckerman) Meyer

Adrian, MI

Leona Rose (Tuckerman) Meyer, age 93, of Adrian passed
away June 19, 2007 in the presence of her family and
friends.  Leona was born September 23, 1919 in
Somerset Center the daughter of Thomas C and Lillian
F. (Michaels) Tuckerman.  Leona was baptized by Rev.
Pellowe at the age of 9 months in the Methodist
Church, Somerset Center, MI.  She graduated from
Addison High School,  first in her class, in 1932.
Leona married Henry W. Meyer June,9, 1934, in the
Lutheran parsonage, Hillsdale, MI.  He preceded her in
death in 1958.  Leona attended Raisin Valley Friends
Church where she was a member of their Missionary
Society.  She also belonged to the Birdsall Sunshine
Club, the Aunt Ellen Club, the North Adrian Grange and
the Birdsall Homemakers Extension Club for over 50
years.  With the desire to be a teacher but being The
Depression and funds lacking, Leona was busy in school
activities while her children were growing up as well
as being a 4-H leader for many years.  Leona was
employed as a baker for twenty years by the food
service at Adrian College. 
Born to the union of Leona and Henry were three
children,  Barbara (Lawrence) Young of Tecumseh,
Kathleen (Stephen) Schultz of Adrian, and Thomas
(Jeanette) Meyer of Tecumseh; five grandchildren; ten
great grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews;
and a special friend, Loretta Hammac.
She was greeted in heaven by her husband, Henry; her
parents, Thomas and Lillian;  five sisters, Fanny
Jackson, Catherine Behken, Bessie Carl, Myrtle Hudson,
and Helen Davis;  and two brothers, Raymond (2 months)
and Ray Tuckerman
Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M.  Friday, June 22,
2007 at the
J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian with Pastors
James Watson and Dale Chryst officiating.  Burial will
follow in Raisin Valley Cemetery.  Visitation will be

Virginia Dixon

Virginia Lenore Dixon, age 87, of Tecumseh, passed away June 18, 2007. 

Virginia was born in Detroit, Michigan January 28, 1920 the daughter of Antoni and Marie (Jankowski) Chyba.                                 On November 23, 1940 she married Reginald (Dick) Dixon in Detroit.  He preceded her in death on March 31, 1983.                   Virginia was a resident of the Tecumseh area since 1949.  She and her husband owned Dixon Photographic Studio in
Tecumseh. Virginia was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church,  Tecumseh Business and Professional
Women and past president, Herrick Hospital Auxiliary, Tecumseh Monday Club and past president, and Mother of
Twins Club,   She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother and active in many community activities and projects. 
Virginia is survived by sons, Ronald R. Dixon, John (Susan) Dixon, and James S. (Laura) Dixon and daughter
in law Diana Dixon; grandchildren Jeremy (Beth) Dixon, Jessica (James) Zann, Michael Dixon, Patrick Dixon,
Elizabeth Dixon, Mark Dixon, Brandie Dixon, Reginald Scott Dixon, Celeste (James) Hostetter and Clint
Dixon; two great grandchildren; and close friends and neighbors, Jeff and Mary Watkins.
Besides her husband Reginald, Virginia was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Dixon.

William "Bill" Smith

William "Bill" Smith, age 84, of Adrian, went home
peacefully to be with the Lord on June 20, 2007, with
his daughters at his side. 

He was born October 28, 1922 in Adrian, MI, the son of
Floyd and Verna (Phipps) Smith.  On September 29,
1946, he married Leona E. Henry in Adrian, MI.  She
survives.

Bill was a graduate of Adrian High School, Class of
1942.  He then went on to earn an Associates Degree
from Cleveland Bible College, Cleveland, OH. (now
Malone College)  Bill was retired from Adrian State
Bank with 39 years of service.   He attended
Fellowship Bible Church, Adrian.   He enjoyed spending
time with his family, gardening, and bird watching.

In addition to his wife Leona, Bill is survived by,
two daughters, Angela (Joe) Garland of Adrian, and
Brenda (Patrick) Sykes of Sarasota, FL; three
grandchildren, Christina K. Elliott of Blissfield,
Jillian I. Garland of Adrian, Ian T. Dangler of
Sarasota, FL; and two great granddaughters, Jade and
Jocelyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister,
Myrtle Ehinger; and a granddaughter, Amanda.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, June
22, 2007 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian,
with Rev. Dr. Edmund Burkey & Rev. Dale Chryst
officiating.  Interment will follow at Packard
Cemetery, Seneca Township, MI.

Rufino Cabrera-Gonzalez, age 49, of Adrian, died June
23, 2007.

Rufino was born August 7, 1957, in Acambaro,
Guanajuato, Mexico, the son of Jose Guadalupe and
Celia (Gonzales) Cabrera.   On January 7, 1996 he
married Aurora Guerrero.  She survives.

Rufino was employed with Lear Corporation, Wauseon, OH.
 

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Adrian.
Rufino was a loving husband to his wife and dear to
both of his sons. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife Aurora, he is survived by two
sons, Jose G. and Armando Cabrera, all of Adrian;
mother, Celia Cabrera of Acambaro, GTO, Mexico; 6
brothers;  and 5 sisters.

He was preceded in death by his father; and 2 brothers
all of Mexico.

Funeral services will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday June
26, 2007 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian,
with Deacon Ray Pizana officiating. 

Burial will follow at Acambaro Cemetery, Acambaro,
GTO, Mexico, under the direction of Funerales S. Del Carmen,
Acambaro, GTO, Mexico.

Raisin Township

Robert C. "Bill" Murday, Sr, age 60, of Raisin
Township, passed away
June 27, 2007 at home surrounded by his loving family.
 Robert was born January 24, 1947, in Bay City,
Michigan the son of Lawrence and Beatrice (Partlo)
Murday.  On October 24, 1971 he married his beloved
wife Mary Ann Gehring.   Bill was a mechanic and
retired from Bill Vreeland Auto Sales.  He loved
Nascar and watching his son compete at Oak Shade
Raceway.  The joys of his life were his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife Mary Ann of 36 years; two sons
Robert, Jr. and Randy both of Adrian; one daughter
Shannon (Ryan) Smith of Tecumseh; six grandchildren,
Nakisha, Kaeleen, Shawna, Kevin, Alayna and Carter;
five brothers Larry (Lynn), Rick (Edwina), Steve,
Jimmy (Debbie), John; two sisters Linda and Suzie; and
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son Rick,  a daughter
Shelia; and his parents.

Tecumseh

Roger E. Treadway, age 74, of Tecumseh, passed away
June 29, 2007.
Roger was born March 8, 1933 in Macomb, Illinois, the
son of John and Sena (Gronewald) Treadway.  On June
27, 1959 he married Judith Fetherston in Chicago, Ill.
 She survives.   Roger was a graduate of Carthage
College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary in
Maywood, IL.  He pastored churches in Iowa and
Illinois and upon retirement he worked for Meijers. 
He was a loving father and grandfather and will be
greatly missed by all.
Besides his wife Judith, Roger is survived by his
children, Brian (Laura) Treadway. Susan (Pat)
Hatheway, Ann Treadway, Eric (Mary Beth) Treadway,
Jeffrey (Leah) Treadway, Joy (Jeffrey) Myers, Kirsten

Lorne C. Keller

Adrian, MI

Lorne C. Keller, age 89, of Adrian, passed away July 1, 2007 at home. 

He was born March 18, 1918, in Wauseon, OH,
the son of Floyd and Erma (Overmier) Keller.
On April 25, 1949, he married Helen V. Hill in Angola,
IN.  She survives.
 

Lorne was a veteran of the U.S. Army and World War II,
 serving from 1942-1946 in the European Theater.
In addition to his wife Helen of Adrian, Lorne is
survived by 3 daughters, Joy (Bruce) Miller, Delcie
Booth, and Edna Keller; one son, Lorne P. Keller of
Adrian; 2 grandsons,  Christopher (Gloria) Keller  and
Robby Booth all of Adrian; one granddaughter, Rachel
French of Morenci; and three brothers, Robert (Delsie)
Keller of Kenosha, WI, Lee (Naomi) Keller,
Sevierville, TN, and James (Edna) Keller of Adrian.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death
by 3 sisters, and 4 brothers. 
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday July 6,
2007 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with
Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiaitng.
Interment will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park,
Adrian, with military honors conducted by Adrian
VFW Post #1584  Annis-Fint.
Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday and
one hour prior to funeral services Friday at the

 36 Bruce Scott Armstrong

Tecumseh, MI

Bruce Scott Armstrong, age 46, of Tecumseh, formerly
of Livonia, passed away June 29, 2007.  Bruce was born
October 24, 1960 in Garden City, Michigan the son of
Douglas and SharonAnn (Phelps) Armstrong.  On July 20,
1995 he married Kris Long in Livonia, MI.  She
survives.  Bruce was a veteran of the U. S. Marines
serving from
1979 - 1981.  He grew up in Wayne, MI and graduated
from Wayne Memorial High School.
Besides his wife Kris, Bruce is survived by his
children Christopher Armstrong, Cassie Parks, and Ryan
Armstrong; his parents Douglas (Darlene) Armstrong and
SharonAnn Armstrong; brothers Bryan (Paula)  and David
 Armstrong; step sisters Jenny Mulligan and Jody May;
grandmother Regina Armstrong; and numerous aunts,
uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Lisa and
Margaret Armstrong and his grandparents. 
Funeral services will be 10:00 A. M. Wednesday, July
11, 2007 at the
J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh  with Fr.
Daniel Wheeler officiating.  Burial will follow at
Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan with
full military honors.  Visitation will be 2 - 8 P. M.

Lovina Jeannette Bailey, age 86, of Tecumseh, passed
away July 2, 2007.
Jeannette was born July 6, 1920 in Dayton, Ohio the
daughter of Edmund and Mary (Eddy) Ely.  She worked
many years for Dr. Kniseley retiring in 1975. 
Jeannette is survived by a son Timothy Bailey and his
fiancé Kristina Davis of Fowlerville; one grandson
Jacob Timothy Bailey of Fowlerville; and  several
nieces and nephews with one special niece, Judy Hill
of Tecumseh.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and
Edmund; five sisters Venita, Ferma, Mabel, Eva May,
and Katherine; and her parents.
Funeral services will be 3:00 P. M. Thursday, July 5,
2007 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
Visitation will be 1 - 3 P. M. before the service on

John Wayne Patrick, age 37 of Jerusalem Township
passed away Monday, July 2, 2007 due to injuries
sustained in an auto accident.  John was born to
Charles and Virginia (Waltz) Patrick June 29, 1970 in
Adrian, MI. He worked for Herr Fishery as a fisherman
for many years. John was known to love his dog Kayla
dearly and was rarely seen without her.
 
John is survived by his daughters, Ashley Miller of
Toledo and Chantel Miller of Jackson, MI, a son,
Christopher Osses of Adrian, MI, his mother, Virginia
Patrick of Blytheville, AR, step-mom, Bonnie Sanders
of Quincy, MI, sisters, Tina Reed, of Blytheville, AR,
Christina (Pat) Daniales of Quincy, MI, Margaret
(Josh) Kies of Steele, MO, brothers, Jack (Jeanette)
Patrick of Steele, MO and David Patrick of Steele, MO.
Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends including special
friends, Shane Timmons and Mike Koester. John was
preceded in death by his father, Charles Patrick,
brothers, Shorty, Jimmy, Pookie, and Roger, sister,
Ruthomie Fox, grandparents, Jack and Goldie Patrick,
Lester and Wilma Waltz.
 
Visitation will begin at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S.

7, 2007 from 4p.m until time of service at 7p.m.

Lawrence W. Chapman, age 82, of Tecumseh, passed away
July 1, 2007
at Foote Hospital, Jackson.  Lawrence was a  Veteran
of the U. S. Army serving in World War II.  He retired
from Tecumseh Products.
Surviving is his son, James Chapman of Tecumseh;
stepchildren, Connie  (Don) Loveland of Tecumseh and
Mark (Tammy) Strahle of Jackson; and two
grandchildren, Loran and Mathew Chapman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine
Chapman.
Cremation has taken place.  Arrangements were

 Delores M. Vogt, age 77, of Adrian, formerly of
 Jackson, passed away
 June 25, 2007.  Delores was born October 29, 1929 in
 Janesville, Wisconsin the daughter of Bernard and
 Agatha (Wastock) Kurzynowski.  On Novermber 27, 1954 she married
 Alfred Vogt in Jackson, MI.  He survives.   Delores had
 many interests such as learning to fly and traveling to
 Europe as a teenager.  She was an avid reader of
 books and working crossword puzzles.   In her earlier
 years she worked at Brails Dry Cleaners and Regent Cafe in
 Jackson.  She was a loving, caring mother and wife.
 Besides her husband Alfred, Delores is survived by
 her children, Jerry (Mary), Dennis, Tony (Crystal),
 Eric Vogt, and Lisa Baur; brother David (Shirley);
 numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
 

Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will
 be held 3:00 P. M. Friday, June 29, 2007 at the
 Unity Church of Jackson, 3385 Miles Road, Jackson.
