Michael D. Young

Michael D. Young, age 62, of Adrian, MI, passed away, December 31, 2017, at home surrounded by his family. He was born December 8, 1955, in Chicago Heights, IL, the son of Jessie & Willie Ruth (Breland) Young. Michael was a graduate of Adrian High School. Following his graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a helicopter mechanic. Michael was a member of Bethel AME Church in Adrian, MI, where he loved to sing in the church choir. He also enjoyed singing Karaoke.  He is survived his wife, Irene Young, his daughter, Kayla Young, stepdaughter, Keiyana Sumner, stepson, Julian Reid, his granddaughter, Taujiana, he was a father to many other children, twins, Robert & Michelle, Jake, Marcia, Julius and Raymond, brother, Samuel Goynes, sister, Fern and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Art Young and nephews, Arthur Young and Kristopher Young.  Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, January 5, 2018, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, MI, with Pastor Lynn Jackson officiating. Military Honors will follow by the Michigan Army National Guard. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 4, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and also on Friday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, MI.
