Michael “Louie” Ray Lewis , 60, of Adrian, Michigan passed away from respiratory failure due to ALS “Lou Gehrig's Disease” May 4th, 2017 at Bixby Medical Center surrounded by his loving family and friends. Mike was born February 4th, 1957 in Adrian, Michigan to Edith West Padgett ( Leroy Padgett) and Ervin Lewis. Mike married Tammy (McGraw) Lewis on April 1st, 1994. Mike worked at General Motors in Adrian for 30 years, retiring in 2007 to take up semi driving. Mike enjoyed spending time on the ball field as a member of the Bill’s Trucking and Rivermarket softball teams, he could often be found with his trailer in tow wheeling and dealing and his favorite pastime of all was spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid University of Michigan Football and Detroit Tiger fan. He is remembered for being his children's and grandchildren's biggest supporter and fan, no distance was to far to travel to watch a wrestling match, a football game, a volleyball match, a baseball game, a softball game soccer game, or performance. He tried to support each and every one of his children and grandchildren any way he could. Mike is survived by the love of his life, Tammy Lewis, his children Robert Lewis (Jackie) of Holly, MI, Josh (Kelly) Smith of Adrian, Natasha (Matt) Wetzel of Adrian; twelve grandchildren Makayla Lewis, Ashley McCutchan, Robert Lewis, Riley Lewis, Aden Lewis, Avery Lewis, Antonio Lewis,Jaeden Wetzel, Brysen Smith, Braeden Wetzel, Karly Smith and Emmet Lewis; one great grandchild Julian Ray Scott; one special nephew, Ricky Kinsel and several other nieces and nephews. Two Sisters Vicki (Cliff) Sherwood, of Adrian and Kathleen Austin of San Diego, CA. In addition to family, he is survived by several close friends Joe and Sherry Cabello and Gilbert Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents Harry and Eula West, parents Edith and Leroy Padgett, and his eldest son Michael Ray Lewis II. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 9th, 2017, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, MI. Burial will follow funeral services at Palmyra Cemetery, Palmrya, MI. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, May 8th, 2017, J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian.
