Marina Valdez

Marina Valdez, 69, of Adrian, Michigan passed away April 18, 2017 at Toledo Hospital in Ohio. She was born March 11, 1948 in Adrian, Michigan, daughter of Octavio and Reymunda De Leon. Marina graduated from Tecumseh High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Siena Heights University and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan.  Marina was employed at Fisher Body in Tecumseh, Michigan for 15 years.  She retired from Siena Heights University after 7 years where she was Assistant Professor of Social Work and Director of Field Education. Marina’s professional career spanned nearly 30 years working with local migrant worker programs, the Lenawee County Department of Human Services, Bixby Medical Center, Herrick Hospital, the Lenawee Unified School District and Adolescent Mental Health Programs in Southern California.  She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Luis Valdez, daughter Lisa Gonzalez, son Daniel Valdez, son-in-law Hector Gonzalez and grandson, Gino Gonzalez.  She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert De Leon, and Frank De Leon. Her surviving siblings include: Emma De Leon, Lupe (Margarita) De Leon, Maria (Lupe) Gonzalez, Reynaldo (Vicky) De Leon. Also, her many nephews, nieces and sister and brother-in-laws: Esperanza, Felipe, Adam, John and Connie.  According to her wishes, Marina will be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Thursday April 27, 2017 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, MI.
