Lawrence Edward Wittkopf, age 70, of Britton, died peacefully September 29, 2017, in Adrian, MI. Lawrence (Larry, Lar) was born January 23, 1947 in Pontiac, MI the son of Ernest J. Wittkopf and Marjorie Ruth Wittkopf (Dodson). On October 4, 1969 he married :Linda Lou Clement in Britton. Larry graduated from Palatine High School, Illinois. He served in the U. S. Army from September 8, 1967 to September 7, 1969 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant , having fought in the Vietnam War. Larry was a Bronze Star recipient and was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal,Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Larry returned to Britton where he worked in the automotive industry. He was a member of the Britton American Legion Post 155 where he was elected and served as past president during his many years of tenure at the post. Larry enjoyed motor cycling, snowmobiling and hunting. Larry is survived by a half sister, Deb Dodson; half brothers, Thomas Dodson II, David Dodson and Darryll Dodson; half sisters, Debbie Wittkopf and Susie Wittkopf and half brother, Ron Wittkopf. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda and brother Jack Wittkopf. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P. M. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Burial will follow in Ridgeway Cemetery with Military honors performed by the United States Army Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from 11:00 A. M. to 1:00 P. M. preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry's honor may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or Britton American Legion Post #155.
