Donald E. Matejcek

DEERFIELD – Donald E. Matejcek, age 77, of Deerfield, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.  Don was born on September 12, 1940 in Flint, Michigan, the son of John & Gladys (Lathrop) Matejcek.  On January 19, 1959 he married Barbara June Wells, and they shared 49 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 2008.  Don retired from Georgia Pacific after 40 years of dedicated service.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He had a great respect for veterans, having two sons and brothers who served in the United States military. He frequented the VFW in Petersburg, where he had many dear friends. He enjoyed celebrating the holidays, especially St. Patrick’s Day and Halloween.  Many summers were spent up north camping at the Rifle River with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was an avid fan of music, especially Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Don was a friend to everyone, and loved with a heart of gold.  Don is survived by his children Donald E Matejcek II, of Deerfield; Dawn (Dave) Collar, of Sand Creek; and David (Sunny) Matejcek, of Deerfield; a daughter in law, Karen Matejcek, of Florida; two brothers Jim (Sara) Matejcek and George Matejcek; three sisters Lorraine (Art) Harmeier; Sue (Huck) Oglesby, and Dorothy Matejcek; ten grandchildren, Tommy and Donald Matejcek III; Nicole (Ritchie) Swander; Jeffrey Collar; Heather (Chad) Barber; Lisa (Nat) Jordan; Angie (Danny) Roe; Brian Collar; Josh (Amy) Black; and Chris Black; 17 great grandchildren Brayden, Brandon, Evan, Olivia, Cameron, Keegan, Violet, Lydia, Ivy, Makenna, Emma, Riley, Kaitlynn, Hayden, Dominic, Isaac, and Sophia. Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Barbara; their son, Dennis Matejcek; and siblings Jack Matejcek and Sandy (Dick) Soles.   A memorial service to honor the life of Donald E Matejcek will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 2:00 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy, Adrian, MI.  Burial of cremains will follow in Deerfield Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 immediately preceding the service.
